Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 (February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in this part of the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. Most people who do not know about the place mistakenly think that they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. It is actually, the West Island includes everything westward of the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time was not long in the city. Brugel began her life in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. She aspired to be a professional dancer, but due to her rapid growth spurt she outgrew all of her dance friends. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. After I outgrew the males in my group, I decided to quit. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting, which is what Brugel did. An instructor in drama at her high school pushed to Brugel into the direction she was looking for. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out as Anne in the school's annual production. After some trial and error her options, she was eventually the leading lady in Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in 2000. In the 20+ years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 plays on the big and small screens drawing the most attention when she was offered the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast in the season 1 of the series, and she was only seen on occasion.
